Pension debacle? Mini rant?

Am I the only young person in Britain who does not mind shelling out an extra 4p in income tax, if it means that people who have worked all their lives can retire before they are on zimmerframes?! Yes, I know it's a big rise in rates for us, but people shouldn't have to slave into their late 60s/early 70s, they should be able to retire with the pension they earned!!

From the page: ';The state pension age has to be raised to 68 to avoid shifting the tax burden onto younger people, Work and Pensions Secretary John Hutton has warned. If the change, to be phased in over 40 years, does not happen, there will have to be a 4p rise in income tax, he said.

The proposed rise from 65 in the age at which people could get the state pension is expected to be included in a bill of reforms published next week. The bill will also propose reinstating a link between pensions and earnings.';Pension debacle? Mini rant?
Agreed. Unfortunately the young segment of our population don't have the free time to devote attention to savings and their final future source of income. Either a lack of time due to working hours, or a lack of interest in something as mundane as pensions, and a sceptical viewpoint as regarding anything post-retirement because of past pension problems, Noone in my circle of friends talks about pensions, its regarded as personal financial stuff and the oldest (30) is tight as...If not that many people admit to thinking about their financial futures/than it can be the case that raising tax to pay for something that's almost invisible is not going to be popular.Pension debacle? Mini rant?
Thank you I liked the point of your question too.

I hope they can survive on that generous pension.
WHAT A THOUGHTFUL PERSON YOU ARE, I VERY MUCH DOUBT MANY PEOPLE WILL AGREE WITH YOU THOUGH. I THINK IT IS VERY BAD THAT PEOPLE WILL HAVE TO WORK TILL THEY DROP. IF THE GOVERNMENT STOPPED GIVING MONEY TOO ALL THESE IMMIGRANTS THERE WOULD BE PLENTY TO GO ROUND, FORTUNATELY I WILL HAVE RETIRED BY THE TIME THE LAW COMES INTO AFFECT.
To some extent I agree with you, its mine and your parents that will have little choice to keep working so we're only helping out our own families really. However, what I disagree with is the way that the Blair and Co can justify wasting 拢5bn in Iraq, millions on people scrounging off benefits and paying heroin addicts 拢10k for going cold turkey. Yet they can't look after the people that have been the backbone of this country year upon year.
